Purchasing Interactive White Board Technology
SHE has obtained a proposal for outfitting 20 additional classrooms with Interactive White Board technology for $9,150.00. The addition of the Mimio Board Technology would mean that all of 2nd & 3rd grade, plus our special education classrooms in grades 2-5, would be outfitted with this great technology. Through the generosity of the SHE community, the foundation is confident that we can bring this technology to our children during the first semester of this school year (2010/2011).

Boosterthon Fun Run 2010
SUMMIT HILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FUN RUN
2010/2011 Fundraiser
The Boosterthon Fun Run program is a healthy alternative to traditional product sales to raise much-needed funds for our school and many others across America. The program also promotes three specific values during the nine day fun-filled program: Fitness, Leadership, and Character.
This year’s character theme is “Leader LAUNCH”. We’ll be learning that leaders are…
Active
Uplifting
Not bullies
Courageous
Helpers
Boosterthon Fun Run Basics
The event will kick off with a 30 minute school-wide Pep Rally on SEPTEMBER 7, 2010 and conclude on SEPTEMBER 16, 2010 with the Boosterthon Fun Run event.
Students get pledges towards the number of laps they will run at the Boosterthon Fun Run.
Every student participates in the Fun Run, regardless of pledges raised, and receives a “Boosterthon All-Star” t-shirt.
Enter your pledges at funrun.com. Each student has his/her own safe and secure Boosterthon Fun Run webpage to log in pledges and watch character videos.
All pledges are tax-deductible!
The Boosterthon Fun Run Team spends 200-300 hours organizing the event, freeing up our teachers and administrators to focus on education!

Local School Advisory Council (LSAC) Newsletter – Alpharetta and Milton Cluster Updates
Welcome to our first Alpharetta/Milton Cluster LSAC newsletter. Our goal is to provide you with the most current information about the schools and programs.
As you all know as cluster chairs we attend the Superintendent Parent Council with Dr. Loe. At our recent meeting we discussed the following agenda items: budget, test scores, the new Value-Added Performance System, Fulton’s Balanced Scorecard, IE2, Parents as Leaders Group, and the system’s Technology Plan including web design.
The information contained in this newsletter is the most update information on the above topics. We will distribute these newsletters after our SPC and Cluster meetings.
One of our goals in LSAC is to increase communication to all members. Please feel free to share this newsletter with your schools’ councils.
1st Annual Summit Hill Foundation Book Drive was a HUGE success!
Bethune Elementary opened in 1989 and is located in downtown Atlanta. The school is named after Mary McCloud Bethune, an American educator and civil rights leader best known for starting a school for black students that eventually became Bethune-Cookman University and for being an advisor to president Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Children’s Restoration Network (CRN) was founded in 1993 to alleviate a growing problem facing metro Atlanta: lack of needed services for the increasing number of children, and women with children, who were becoming homeless. Today CRN works with 128 shelters and group homes in 18 counties around metro Atlanta, housing over 2,000 children each night and over 3,700 children each year.
Thank you for your generous donations!
Investing in our Children
Perhaps you have heard the exciting news that Summit Hill Elementary now has a foundation! You may be wondering, Why was it established? . . . What are it’s goals? . . . How can I help?

There are many terrific ideas about how our school can be improved with additional funding, but there is a limited amount of discretionary money available to any school especially in these times of extreme budget constrictions. Generally, each purchase is paid for from a specific budget category, and must be qualified to come out of the Fulton County budget. Our wonderful PTA supports many enrichment programs but there are limitations as to how PTA funds can be spent based on guidelines established by the national PTA organization.
Recess is an Essential Component of Education
The National Association of Early Childhood Specialists in State Departments of Education asserts that recess is an essential component of education and that preschool and elementary school children must have the opportunity to participate in regular periods of active, free play with peers.
PTA and Foundation….a Partnership for Success!
Here is a comparison that helps outline how our PTA and our Foundation will compliment each other to better support Summit Hill.
What PTA Can Do for Us…..
- Curriculum Enrichment Programming for Summit Hill Students
- Family and Student Activities for Building Community
- Provides opportunities for greater family involvement in your child’s education
- Recruit and provide dedicated volunteers to support student achievement
- Completely funds and operated the Science Discovery Lab and Art EdVentures Studio
- By state and national standards, PTA cannot support capital improvements to school including technology and playground enhancements.
- All monies raised by PTA must be spent within that school year
- PTA cannot fund staff positions
- 100% tax deductible
What the Foundation Can Do for Us……
